Maintenance Classes

Here at Alaska Tactical & Security, our goal is to provide premier gun education to give our students the skills and confidence needed to safely handle firearms. Maintenance classes are an essential part of being a responsible gun owner.

We regularly run skills refresher and maintenance classes for auto-pistol, Glocks, and AR-15s. Call our office to learn when these classes are being scheduled. Please note that each weapon has its own, separate training course.

Dry-Fire Training

Knowledge

  • Review safety procedures, mindset, and presentation of the handgun
  • Loading, reloading, and unloading procedures and malfunction checks

  • Your 9mm (or larger) semi-automatic handgun
  • Strong-side, good quality external hip holster, magazine pouch, minimum of three magazines (a double-magazine pouch is preferred)
  • Bring a minimum of 12-15 dummy rounds

  • Proper disassembly and reassembly, field stripping, cleaning procedures, proper lubrication/maintenance, and function tests after reassembly.

  • Stripping a Glock down to the bare frame, learning about pistol function, complete disassembly and reassembly
  • Learning about inspection points, lubrication points, evaluation and inspection of worn parts, and a proper function test after reassembly

  • Learning about cleaning procedures, troubleshooting the mechanisms, inspection for wear and tear, function-testing the hammer and trigger sear, general overview of the operation of the rifle

Mini Armors Course AR-15
(Lower Receiver/Part 1)

Knowledge

  • Technical building of the complete lower receiver, understanding the difference between Forged and Billet, learning about the proper tools and how to use them, building the lower part in sequential order
  • Discuss the difference in quality of components, different triggers recommended – such as the Mil-Spec versus drop-in systems

Mini Armors Course AR-15
(Upper Receiver/Part 2)

Knowledge

  • Technical building of the complete upper receiver, including barrel and bolt carrier group selection, how to install all components correctly with the use of proper installation tools, what stretching the threads means, and proper use of Loctite anti-seize
  • We will cover torque specs and the different pressures at the gas transfer as well as the advantages and disadvantages of different barrel lengths. This is a concise class to give you piece of mind
